What's New in SNMP
Updated installers for Version 1.1 (June 8, 2005)
- Now checks if ArcView 3.2 or 3.3
is installed - SNMP requires ArcView 3.2 or 3.3 to run. If
you are installing SNMP on a machine that does not have ArcView, the
installer will notify you this is the case. You may complete
installation of SNMP with no problems, but you should then install
ArcView 3.2 or 3.3.
- Now checks if previous version of
SNMP is installed - If you are installing SNMP version 1.1 for a
state (for example, eastern Colorado) and you already have SNMP
(version 1.0 or 1.1) for eastern Colorado installed in another
location on your computer, you will be notified. Note:
Installing SNMP 1.1 in the same location as SNMP 1.0 (for the same
state and region, e.g. eastern Colorado) will present no problems
and will not require any extra steps on the part of the user.
Therefore, no notification will appear for this situation. The new
version of SNMP will cleanly install over the top of the old one.
- This is not a new version of the
SNMP software - The only thing that has changed is the
installer. The SNMP software itself is still the same and is
therefore still called Version 1.1. If you have already installed
SNMP version 1.1, you do not need to re-install with this new
installer.
Version 1.1 CCE-certified (May 24, 2005)
Version 1.1 Released (April 5, 2005)
- Now supports importing other
shapefiles - If you have already generated a fields shapefile
using a GPS unit or other means, you may now import this directly
into SNMP. This eliminates the need to redraw fields in
multiple platforms.
- Support for NRCS practice
features - Practice feature shapefiles (e.g. piplines, terraces)
generated in Toolkit or by some other means can now be imported.
Full support for these layers include drawing, editing, and
renaming.
- New measuring tools - Use
these tools to measure distance to storage and distance to water.
These values are stored with the fields data and can be export to or
imported from MMP. Also tools for measuring distances or area
for reference.
- Export soil data - At the
click of a button, a new table is created that lists all soil types
present in every field of an operation.
- Upgraded soil data converter
- Some format changes in soil data from NRCS have occurred.
This tool now accommodates the new forms.
Version 1.0 Released (July 26, 2004)
- Now available for the 48 contiguous states - Universal
tool is great for planners who work in more than one state. Includes
manure application setback distances for many states. You can also
define your own.
- All new dialog boxes for viewing and entering field and soil
test data - Click on a field to view and edit all of its field
or soil test data in one place.
- Export field and soil test data to MMP or WinMax - Use
SNMP as a GIS front-end for either MMP
or WinMax to determine field
sizes and soil types automatically.
- Import field and soil test data from MMP - Eliminates
double entry of data.
- Export field layout to NRCS Customer Service Toolkit -
Use the same field boundaries and aerial photos in both programs.
- Import field layout from NRCS Customer Service Toolkit -
Eliminates double layout of fields and ensures that field sizes
match Toolkit acreage.
- Convert SSURGO and Soil Data Mart downloads of soil survey
spatial data for use with SNMP - Use any SSURGO-certified soil
survey. Conversion to SNMP shapefile is automatic.
- Clip soil survey to operation's farm boundaries -
Minimize size and maximize speed of soil survey shapefile.
- Zip and unzip farm layouts for easy backup and restore or for
transfer to another computer - Simplifies common file management
activities.
- Complete program help available from within SNMP -
Convenient help button in each dialog box means help is only a click
away.
